Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 16.3% for June 2020, 5.9 Percentage Point Higher than the State


Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 16.3% in June 2020, which was higher than the state’s rate of 10.4%. This rate was 13.0 percentage point higher than the region’s rate of 3.3% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,334,094 down 63,084 (-4.5) over the year. There were 218,098 unemployed residents in the region.

Central Florida’s Lowest Unemployment Rates:

  • Sumter County had the lowest unemployment rate (9.7%) in the CSCF region followed by Seminole County (10.3%), Lake County (14.3%), Orange County (17.2%), and Osceola County (22.9%).

Job Growth Trends

 

Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford MSA:

  • Nonagricultural employment was 1,144,700, a decrease of 169,800 Jobs
    (-12.9%) Over the Year.
  • Second Highest Annual Job Growth*
    • Mining, Logging, and Construction (+1,800 Jobs)
  • Industries losing jobs over the year were:
    • Leisure and Hospitality (-130,400 Jobs)
    • Professional Businesses and Services (-18,600 Jobs)

    • Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (-6,300 Jobs)
    • Government (-3,200 Jobs)

The Villages MSA:

  • Nonagricultural employment was 31,500, an increase of 100 Jobs (+0.3%) Over the Year
