Meet Stephanie: Driving Towards a Brighter Future

After losing her beauty salon to a fire, career seeker Stephanie J. moved to Central Florida from Baltimore, Maryland. Following in her great grandmother’s footsteps, she opened a new salon in downtown Sanford. Unfortunately, due to the impacts of COVID-19, she was forced to close the salon after six years. Without a source of income, she needed to adjust and find a way to support her family.

Stephanie had a new goal in mind: becoming a professional truck driver. Inspired by friends and female truck drivers who shared their experiences, she knew that truck driving was the right career path and the beginning of other career opportunities in the trucking industry.

Looking for ways to afford her education, a friend referred Stephanie to CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF). She made an appointment and connected with a Career Services Consultant who helped her lay out a plan for her career journey.

Stephanie enrolled in a truck driving training program with Roadmaster Drivers School of Orlando and completed her training, receiving her CDL A certification, and she passed the Florida state exam. She received a job offer from Werner Enterprises that included a sign-on bonus and weekends off. The resources provided by CSCF allowed Stephanie to receive a free education and find a new career that would allow her to provide for her family.

“CareerSource Central Florida was a light, they helped me turn on the high beams in my life to successfully navigate to a brighter future,” said Stephanie.
