The Rainbow After The Storm

Moving Forward Together: After Hurricane Maria

Wells Fargo awarded CSCF a $20,000 grant to host a community resource and hiring event last month for evacuees and those still working to recover from the powerful category 4 storm that struck Puerto Rico and the Caribbean a year ago.

The event took place at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee with 40 employers and agencies conducting interviews with almost 400 career seekers. A pre-event community discussion among leaders and stakeholders also took place to help identify other opportunities and services the community can provide for those still struggling to rebuild their lives.

“We are proud to partner with CareerSource Central Florida and other local community organizations in this initiative,” said South Central Florida Region Bank President Angel Buchanan. “A year ago, our team stepped up to support Puerto Rico and those arriving to Florida, and now, a year later, our team at Wells Fargo wants to make sure we are still continuing our support for those that have arrived to Central Florida. This event shared resources and training opportunities for those that have been here for some time and are looking to learn more in depth information about homeownership, housing, employment opportunities, career training, financial aid and more.”
