Osceola Commission Gifts 2022 Seniors with More than $12 million

Osceola County, Florida – Gathered in gymnasiums and auditoriums across Osceola County’s public high schools Monday – the first day after Spring Break — students, teachers and administrators had no idea why.

It was a life-changing announcement. Osceola County Commissioners’ launch of a more than $12.4 million transformational program known as Osceola Prosper will allow every 2022 graduating senior a free college or technical education through Valencia College and Osceola Technical College (oTECH). CareerSource Central Florida is helping to support funding aspects of skills training.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 3.9% for January 2022, 0.4 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 3.9% in January 2022, which was higher than the state’s rate of 3.5%. This rate was 3.2 percentage point lower than the region’s rate of 7.1% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,404,630, up 89,828 (+6.8%) over the year. There were 54,211 unemployed residents in the region.

Innovative Summer Youth Program Opens Applications:

Orlando, Fla. — A new take on the teen summer “job” where they earn money by learning and planning their future career path? Yes, please!

Registration is now open for 2,000 Central Florida teens to participate in CareerSource Central Florida’s annual Summer Youth Program, which rewards teens with financial incentives as they explore the region’s various college experiences, training opportunities and internships in multiple high-growth industries.

All participating students have the opportunity to earn a minimum of $1,000 over the summer while they learn. Teens who live in Central Florida are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:

Good News This Veterans Day: Local Veterans Career Program Receives $38K Award; Plus Offers Custom Hiring Event

Nov. 3, 2021 (Orlando, Fla.) — Veterans in Central Florida will benefit from a $38,000 award earned by the region’s workforce board for its excellence in connecting veterans with employment and career training. For the third consecutive year, CareerSource Central Florida has been honored with the Veterans’ Performance Incentive Award from Governor Ron DeSantis which includes a $38,000 grant that will be used to even further enhance career readiness programs offered to our region’s Veterans. Established by the Jobs Veterans Act, these awards are granted to organizations that encourage the improvement of employment, training and placement services for Veterans and recognize local workforce development boards for excellence or demonstrated improvements in the provision of employment and training opportunities to thousands of Veterans.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 5.0% for August 2021, Equals the State’s Rate

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 5.0% in August 2021, which equals the state rate. This rate was 5.6 percentage points lower than the region’s rate of 10.6% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,382,268 up 65,936 (+5.0) over the year. There were 69,777 unemployed residents in the region.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 5.3% for July 2021, 0.2 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 5.3% in July 2021, which was higher than the state’s rate of 5.1%. This rate was 10.2 percentage points lower than the region’s rate of 15.5% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,374,975, up 17,275 (+1.3) over the year. There were 73,328 unemployed residents in the region.
