CareerSource Central Florida’s Summer Youth Program Empowered Tomorrow’s Leaders Through College Experiences, Professional Internships and Career Training

Orlando, Fla., — Through CareerSource Central Florida’s Summer Youth Program, more than 1,500 young adults (ages 15-19) gained exposure to either college experiences or multiple career pathways in high-growth industries, received professional internships, or took part in specialized career training. More than 150 businesses across the region partnered with Florida’s second largest workforce board to host hundreds of young adults and give them invaluable work experience. There were 100 of these young adults who were offered permanent part-time and/or full-time positions.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 6.0% for June 2021, 1.0 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 6.0% in June 2021, which was higher than the state’s rate of 5.0%. This rate was 12.3 percentage points lower than the region’s rate of 18.3% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,365,466, up 14,012 (+1.0) over the year. There were 82,523 unemployed residents in the region.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 5.4% for May 2021, 0.5 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 5.4% in May 2021, which was higher than the state’s rate of 4.9%. This rate was 17.0 percentage points lower than the region’s rate of 22.4% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,339,727, down 39,216 (-2.8) over the year. There were 72,772 unemployed residents in the region.

CareerSource Central Florida Announces Delivery of Workforce Solutions to Combat Opioid Crisis

Orlando, Fla., — CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF), Florida’s second largest regional workforce board, has launched “Fostering Opioid Recovery through Training & Employment (FORTE)” – a four-year initiative focused on engaging businesses and individuals affected by the opioid crisis. As part of $5M awarded to the State of Florida from the U.S. Department of Labor and administered by the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), CSCF received $2.7M aimed at supporting and training businesses whose employees may be impacted by opioids. In addition, the grant will also help build new and emerging career pathways that support workforce needs resulting from the opioid crisis and will assist individuals in navigating their recoveries.

CareerSource Central Florida and Lake Technical College to Host Free Coding and Construction Classes for Teens

June 15, 2021

CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) and Lake Technical College will host free coding and construction classes for teens ages 16-19 this summer. Young adults will have the opportunity to learn about coding and construction during the four-week summer program. Participants will receive hands-on experience on high-demand skills, and stipends while earning industry certifications and technical milestones.
