Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 5.8% for January 2021, 1.0 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 5.8% in January 2021, which was higher than the state’s rate of 4.8%. This rate was 2.3 percentage point higher than the region’s rate of 3.5% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,278,013, down 127,660 (-9.1) over the year. There were 73,937 unemployed residents in the region.

Applications Now Open for CareerSource Central Florida’s 2021 Summer Youth Program

Orlando, Fla. — CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF), Florida’s second largest regional workforce board, has opened applications for its annual Summer Youth Program, which helps 1,500 young adults in high school (ages 15-19) gain exposure to college experiences and multiple career pathways in high-growth industries, receive professional internships, and take part in specialized career training. The application for young adults who reside in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Sumter Counties is now open, and students are encouraged to apply at CareerSourceCentralFlorida.com/Summer-Youth.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 6.9% for December 2020, 0.8 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 6.9% in December 2020, which was higher than the state’s rate of 6.1%. This rate was 4.4 percentage point higher than the region’s rate of 2.5% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,327,314 down 77,648 (-5.5) over the year. There were 91,552 unemployed residents in the region.

Central Florida’s Unemployment Rate At 7.7% for November 2020, 1.3 Percentage Point Higher than the State

Orlando, Fla.,– The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) region (Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter counties) was 7.7% in November 2020, which was higher than the state’s rate of 6.4%. This rate was 5.0 percentage point higher than the region’s rate of 2.7% during the same timeframe last year. The labor force was 1,344,831 down 61,334 (-4.4) over the year. There were 103,374 unemployed residents in the region.

CareerSource Central Florida Offers Limited-Time-Only Guaranteed Interviews with Participating Hiring Companies for Orange County Residents through Help is Here Program until Dec. 31, 2020

Orlando, Fla., — For the next 30 days only, CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) is offering eligible Orange County residents guaranteed interviews with participating hiring companies through the Help is Here program, a $7 million grant in CARES Act monies from Orange County Government that aims to provide workforce re-entry and meaningful careers to Orange County residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible Orange County residents can receive interviews with participating companies that are currently hiring for various in-demand jobs across Central Florida. Orange County residents must apply and be enrolled in the Help is Here program no later than Dec. 31, 2020 for the guaranteed interview offer.
